TRUST OF GOVERNMENT AT HISTORIC LOWS

It’s pretty clear that the public trust of the federal government is low…and that’s an understatement. According to Partnership for Public Service, a nonpartisan organization, founded in 2001, public trust of the federal government’s performance measures in at only 33%.  Gallup comes in at 27%.  Hard to argue the point. I mean, what’s to trust?

In my opinion, here are some obvious contributing factors.

Fueled by cable news and social media, Democrats see the Republican Party as an existential threat to democracy, disconnected, and driven by corporate interests.  Republicans view Democrats as progressive elites who threaten the economy, national security, and traditional American values.

Add in the belief that politicians use public office for personal financial gain, and the perception that wealthy donors and corporate PACs control policy decisions. Top it off with a rudderless, out-of-touch, president, surrounded by incompetents.

And there you have it…the recipe for unfailing mistrust.
