What Does $40 Trillion in Debt Get You? Apparently, Nothing!!!
We’re $40 Trillion in debt. The government collected $5.2 trillion in all taxes last year, and $41 trillion over the last decade. So, where is all our tax money being spent?
Can’t be healthcare, we have the lowest life expectancy of the G7 nations, the 2nd highest rate of preventable and treatable deaths, and rank 32nd in infant mortality. There is no affordable healthcare for all, so we’re not spending it here, apparently.
Eliminating poverty? We have the 2nd highest poverty rate of all industrialized countries, the biggest income gap between the rich and poor, and the weakest social safety nets for low-income families. Not spending here.
Surely, we must be spending our tax dollars to educate our children. Nope! Only 65% of our 3-to-5-year-olds are enrolled in early schooling. American students pay the highest out-of-pocket university tuition fees of the 38 richest countries. And, public school teachers receive the lowest relative salaries among all industrialized nations.
What about public safety? Don't think so. Can’t be spending money here. The U.S. suffers from a higher violent crime and homicide rate than any other industrialized economy in the world. For example, the U.S. firearm homicide rate is 330 times higher than the United Kingdom's and over 860 times higher than Japan's.
We are the richest, most powerful country in the world. We should rank 1st across the board, and we don’t. We’re clearly spending our money in the wrong places.
Nuff sed.
