*“We are keeping Texas one of the most affordable states in the United States of America.”* Texas Governor, Greg Abbott

Texas has experienced Republican Party rule for 30 years. Greg Abbott has been the Governor of Texas for 12 years. On July 15, ninety days before the November election, where Abbott remains on the ballot, he outlined his “Make Texas Affordable” agenda. The agenda highlights his plan to lower home, auto, and health insurance premiums.

For the record, during Abbott’s tenure:

\- Texas ranks dead last in affordable healthcare.

\- Texas has the highest percentage of uninsured adults and children in the entire US.

\- Texas has experienced the highest number of hospital closings than any state in the union.

\- Texas has the most expensive home insurance premiums, exceeding $4,500/year in the US versus the national average of $2,500/year.

\- Home insurance premium rates have increased by more than 50% just in the last 6 years.

\- Auto insurance rates increased 58% since 2021.

If Texas were an independent country, its $2.9T GDP would rank as the 8th largest economy in the world. Yet, Texas ranks #1 in residents experiencing financial strain. Texas ranks 4th best in big business development, but ranks 49th in overall quality of life for Texas families.

Texas ranks in the top 5 for highest property taxes, but ranks 43rd in funding for schools. At least 150 public schools have closed on Abbott’s watch.

Texas leads the nation in child hunger with 1 in 4 experiencing food insecurities. In 2025, Abbott vetoed a $400B federal funding bill that disqualified nearly 3.75M low-income children from a summer lunch program, citing long-term fiscal concerns.

Abbott’s oil and gas donors have contributed $106M for his re-election. I say it’s time for a change!
