Sammy's Shoes Don't Match That Dress!!!

✕ Thomas J. Raleigh · October 19, 2026 · 2 min read

The other day someone sent me a screenshot of a couple of government employed trans people. Dr. Rachel Levine, on the left, left her job at HHS when her term concluded in 2025. Sammy Brinton, on the right, was fired from the DOE in 2022 for felony theft.

Lots of negative comments associated with this post about how Democrats are constantly inviting “woked-up culture wars”, by supporting people like this.  And ultimately how this “type of stuff” really upsets God-fearing MAGA people.

I just don’t see it that way.

To me, it should be more about how Rachel’s glasses lack style, and Sammy’s shoes clearly don’t match that dress.

Unfortunately, without good thought leadership from either side to inspire people, this is what we end up talking about leading up to the mid-terms.

I’m hoping after the elections that we can all focus on more important matters like where the U.S. stands on things like education, and why we rank 31st in the world based on literacy measures, numerous public education scores, and other factors.

Or healthcare, where the U.S. consistently ranks poorly despite some of the highest spending levels in the world. Granted, even though the U.S. remains a global leader in medical innovation and scientific advancement, we still have the highest rate of deaths among peer nations, and perform the worst in health outcomes, equity, and administrative efficiency. And dead last of 32 countries measured in healthcare sustainability. The richest country in the world? Really?

There’s lots of room to talk more about economic performance.  Sure, the U.S. ranks #1 in the world in economic development, which is fantastic. But poor fiscal policy puts our national debt at $119,820 per U.S. citizen. With a total national debt exceeding $40T and counting, adding some $60,000 per second, something ain’t right!  Let’s figure out some stop gaps without compromising entitlements. Clinton did it, and he wasn’t all that good.

In the 2026 Best Quality of Life ranking, the United States ranks 15th globally in environmental sustainability, #1 among high‑income countries for firearm homicide rates, and finishes out ranked 27th overall, last among G7 nations. These are peer nations leaving us in their wake.

Dozens more substantive challenges await our attention after these mid-terms, including rebuilding trust in our institutions. I say, let’s start holding all three branches of government accountable.

See, it’s really not about the shoes!
